Virgilio Barco Public Library is located in the west of Bogota, and is part of the Master Plan of Parque Simón Bolívar. In its 14 hectares library owns a restaurant, a large garden composed of channels, gutters and storm water sewers that lead, bike paths and parking areas for vehicles and bicycles. The library opened on December 21, 2001. The name of the library is determined by the Council of Bogotá Agreement (Number 64 of May 31, 2002), in tribute to former president and Colombian politician Virgilio Barco Vargas.
Characteristics:
Rational, natural and architectural, physical and man-made, which not infrequently are estranged, and that Salmona's work to achieve integration.In this dialectic game, three features are clearly distinguishable in theirbuildings: a) the geometry embodied in nature, b) architecture in a situation of interaction and interpenetration with the landscape and c) integration of the physical elements-light, wind, water,green-architecture. At this point we can argue that it is an architecture that suggests a fraternalencounter between natural and artificial, physical and geometric, beyondmaking it eminently human culture. This sense of humanity in the architecture that overcomes cultural and geographic boundaries, can be verified by comparing coincidentally Salmona architectural thinking with that of Tadao Ando, who belong to another continent and another culture, produce, although other material-essentially Betón -I built an architecturerelatively close in composition conceptual, formal, spatial andpsychological meaning to that of Rogelio Salmona.
